And yes, for a short while we will be sensitive about the loss, but check again in a few years. Your misconception will change. Seeing as Brazilian media already called the Cup “an 11 billion dollar disaster”, I don’t think so. The team comes first and foremost; the standard of success for this entire Cup for Brazil was rectifying the previous worse disaster in Brazilian football history, dubbed the “Maracanazo”. This loss came against Uruguay in the final of the last World Cup hosted by Brazil (1950). Instead of atoning for that loss, they created a new catastrophe surpassing the previous one by a large margin. Other soccer nations will call this World Cup a success for its passion and relatively smooth execution, but Brazil will never get over its heartbreak from this week.
